Communications Specialist

 

Organizations such as Gilead Sciences, Kaiser Permanente, and the American Heart Association have benefited from Melissa’s expertise in health and wellness communications.

Equally comfortable as a communicator and trainer, Melissa has developed and delivered disease awareness programs at San Jose University, and is a certified facilitator of wellness education programs for Kaiser.

She earned her B.A. in Communication at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where she also completed minors in applied psychology and Asian-American studies and received Dean’s List honors. Her professional interests include health promotion, social marketing, and community health.

Achievements

• Winner of a 2011 Communicator Awards Gold Award of Excellence, and two 2011 Communicator Awards Silver Awards of Distinction for Gilead Sciences Wellness newsletter.
• Conducted research interviews with both clinical and non-clinical employees to support development of education program at Kaiser Permanente
• Created targeted programs to raise awareness about liver disease and other health issues as a Certified Peer Health Educator for San Jose State University
• Organized successful fundraising events for both the American Heart Association and the American Liver Foundation
• Contributed to primary and secondary research for health video game project at the University of California, Santa Barbara
